The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted our daily lives for much of 2020. As Safe Management Measures were enforced, Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) sessions at Fitness Conditioning Centres (FCCs) had to be suspended till October 2020. Aware that Operationally Ready Police National Servicemen (PNSmen) would have difficulty in clearing their IPPT this year, the Police National Service Department (PNSD) started organising IPPT sessions at Home Team Academy (HTA) for affected PNSmen since August 2020.
DAC (NS) Patrick Fung, NS Commander A Div, who took his IPPT at one of the HTA IPPT sessions, felt that this was an “excellent initiative” as it helped solve the problem of reduced FCC IPPT slots available to PNSmen.
SUPT Peh Eng Kiat, Assistant Director NS Performance Management and Engagement, acknowledged that organising the HTA IPPT sessions was no easy feat. His team had to secure the booking of the venue, as well as sort out various manpower, logistics and administrative arrangements, before each HTA IPPT session could proceed. In addition, the HTA IPPT sessions had to implement stringent social distancing measures in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s guidelines to ensure that all PNSmen could take their IPPT in a safe environment.

SUPT Peh is appreciative of the units for their support in providing officers to help conduct the HTA IPPT sessions on weekends. “The HTA IPPT session is a step towards SPF taking charge of the IPPT activities of our own PNSmen. Moreover, I believe that PNSmen will find it refreshing to take their IPPT at HTA, which is equivalent to them returning to their home ground,” he said. The HTA IPPT sessions will carry on as long as there is a need.
