The city’s vibrant food scene is a melting pot of cultures, and halal-friendly eateries are taking it to the next level — offering everything from sizzling Korean to authentic Italian.

There’s only so much nasi padang one can eat — delicious as it may be, even if it’s from the famed Bib Gourmand-awarded Hjh Maimunah behind the iconic Masjid Sultan. Thankfully, Singapore’s halal dining landscape is rich with international flavours, and halal-certified eateries are making it easier than ever to enjoy a world of cuisines.

With Hari Raya Puasa just around the corner on 31 March, it’s the perfect time to embark on a culinary adventure and break fast with a feast that goes beyond borders.

CRAVING FOR KOREAN

For crispy, sauce-drenched goodness, head to Jinjja Chicken, which has been serving its signature Korean fried chicken wings since 2016. Each fresh, juicy bite is slathered in your choice of soy garlic, fiery yangnyeom (sweet, spicy red sauce), or indulgent honey butter soy, delivering an explosion of flavours. True to its name — “jinjja” means “really” in Korean — this eatery doesn’t stop at fried chicken. It also dishes out bold and authentic Korean favourites such as jjajangmyeon (noodles in black bean sauce), bibimbap (mixed rice bowls), and jjampong (spicy seafood noodles).

If Korean barbecue is more your style, fire up the grill at Namu Bulgogi. This unique K-BBQ spot sets itself apart by using oakwood — rather than electric grills — to infuse meats with a subtle vanilla-scented smokiness. It’s the first restaurant in Singapore to do so, making it a must-visit for BBQ lovers. Pair your perfectly grilled meats with comforting Korean stews, fried rice, noodles, and other must-try dishes.

COMFORTING CHINESE FLAVOURS

At Tongue Tip Lanzhou Beef Noodles, the art of noodle-making is taken to the next level. Skilled chefs hand-pull dough into eight different noodle shapes — ranging from ultra-thin strands to thick, chewy ribbons, and even unique “triangle” cuts. But the real star of the dish is the clear yet intensely flavourful beef broth, a labour of love brewed with over 15 types of herbs and spices. Each slurp delivers the signature “tip of the tongue” sensation that defines traditional Lanzhou beef noodles.

If you’re craving a fiery kick, dive into the bold, numbing heat of Monster Chilli Mala Hot Pot. Found in food courts islandwide, this brand has successfully localised the spicy, aromatic Sichuan malatang experience — now made halal. Choose from a variety of ingredients to customise your own comforting, spice-laden bowl. Beyond malatang, turn up the heat with other Sichuan specialities like sour and spicy pickled fish, hot and sour noodles, and spicy chicken.

HEARTY WESTERN DELIGHTS

For a feast of halal gourmet western dishes, Grill Ninety Nine delivers with succulent steaks, fresh oysters, and hearty mains like lamb shank, lamb rack, and handmade thin-crust pizzas. Cap off your break of fast gathering with a round of mocktails and creamy ice cream at this cosy spot, nestled in a charming two-storey shophouse along the historic Arab Street.

If rich, slow-cooked indulgence is what you crave, head to Tash Tish Tosh, renowned for its twist on tulang merah (mutton bone marrow). Its signature dish reinvents tradition by slow pressure-baking the bone for 12 hours in a fragrant stew infused with local herbs and spices, ensuring fork-tender meat and melt-in-your-mouth gelatinous tendons. The menu also features a local take on buffalo wings, with crispy chicken coated in a thicker, saucier glaze than its American counterpart, and even a pizza breakfast — a morning platter served on a crust.

Beyond beef bowls, the casual eatery offers a variety of protein options, including unagi, salmon, fried chicken, and prawn, alongside comforting bowls of ramen, curry, and indulgent Japanese desserts.

For a sizzling yakiniku experience, Wakuwaku Yakiniku — Singapore’s first halal-certified yakiniku restaurant — is a must-visit. Founded by local celebrities Sheikh Haikel and Anna Belle Francis, the restaurant has teamed up with local butchery King of Wagyu to bring premium halal A5 wagyu beef from Tanifuji Farm in Japan. Here, diners can also enjoy the bold, nutty flavours of dry-aged beef, a process that enhances tenderness and intensifies taste. Beyond grilled meats, donburi sets featuring crispy beef tallow rice offer another layer of indulgence.
