A waterful time at HomeTeamNS clubhouses

World Water Day was celebrated with a splash at HomeTeamNS Clubhouses, where junior members had fun learning about the environment through exciting activities.

In March, HomeTeamNS hosted guests and members for an array of water-themed activities in commemoration of World Water Day at all the clubhouses. The clubhouses also welcomed Water Wally and Sally, PUB’s renowned mascots, to greet members and patrons. From colouring activities to a relaxing day at the swimming pools, here’s what went down at the clubhouses.

FUN LOBBY ACTIVITIES

Water-themed kids’ corner activities were organised at HomeTeamNS-JOM Balestier.

An array of exciting activities for junior HomeTeamNS members and patrons taught them about the importance of water and how to save this precious resource. Activities including colouring, water-themed maze puzzles and word searches about Singapore’s key water sources were provided to the participants to help raise awareness about the importance of water.

A SPLASHING GOOD TIME

Young guests letting loose at the Dip n’ Splash pool party at the HomeTeamNS Bedok Reservoir clubhouse.

About 240 members and guests had fun at Dip n’ Splash, a pool-party at HomeTeamNS Bedok Reservoir. The swimming pool sprawled with installations and games like an inflatable water-obstacle course, noodle war, captain’s ball, paddle boats, and pool floats. Participants soaked in the fun while enjoying the picturesque views of Bedok Reservoir.

Over at HomeTeamNS-JOM Balestier, the clubhouse also had a #WaterWeekend Floating Fun pool party, in celebration of all things H20-related. About 50 members and guests played with their families while basking in the sun with large floats.

WATER SIBLINGS ON A MISSION TO EDUCATE

PUB’s Water Siblings, Water Wally and Sally, helped spread the word about water conservation at the HomeTeamNS Khatib clubhouse.

World Water Day can’t be celebrated without the PUB’s brother and sister pair, Water Wally and Sally. As they wandered around the lobby of all the HomeTeamNS clubhouses, visitors stopped to take a quick snap with the mascots. The water siblings are on a mission to share their knowledge and experience on water sustainability after witnessing the water crises around the globe.

Every effort counts when it comes to building a sustainable future. HomeTeamNS takes pride in the movement towards sustainability, where the newer clubhouses under its Masterplan – Khatib and Bedok Reservoir – have taken a big step towards water conservation and reduction in energy consumption. Through the installation of blue and green features like the solar panels and rainwater harvesting in the clubhouses, HomeTeamNS looks forward to a brighter and greener future.

How to take holiday family fun to new levels

The June holidays are here, so pack those books away, it’s time for a month of fun and exploration for the whole family.

June brings with it sunny days for the mid-year school vacations, and with Families for Life’s National Family Week happening from 3 to 11 June, there’s no better reminder to plan early for some holiday activities.

Singapore’s small size belies its many offerings and any online search will offer many options. To kick off your planning, here are some family-friendly activities to consider for the June holidays.

POP BY FOR A VISIT

HomeTeamNS clubhouses will be hosting activities in celebration of National Family Week as well.

Over at HomeTeamNS Khatib, join in the festive cheer of a bazaar featuring offerings from local businesses on June 3 and 4, and join in the event’s host of activities including bouncy castles, foam blaster challenges, pool soccer and Giant Jenga.

For the rest of the month, look out for other family activities at the other clubhouses, such as the go-kart rides at HomeTeamNS Bedok Reservoir till 3 July, a Hawaiian-themed bazaar at HomeTeamNS-JOM Balestier on 17 June, mini game stations at HomeTeamNS Bukit Batok from 17 to 18 June, and many more.

I CHOOSE YOU

Whether you’re nine or 90 years old, the adorable furball that is Pikachu and his evolving friends have won the hearts of many with their zany antics. Now, you’ll get a chance to be captured into a poke ball yourself by boarding the newly-decorated cable cars by Mount Faber Leisure group.

It’s a colourful and unique way to visit Sentosa, with all 67 of the cabins each decorated to the anime’s striking visuals. But just like the games, you won’t know who you’ll end up with, as the designs are randomised into five groups. You might be sitting with first-generation Pokemon like Eevee and Pikachu, or maybe encounter newer friends such as the laidback Fuecoco.

The fun doesn’t stop when you reach Sentosa. Immerse yourself in the Van Gogh experience at Resorts World, or speed down a hill course with Skyline Luge. Fly across the world with a prehistoric bird, Shahbaz, in Wings of Time, with upgraded pyrotechnics to really dazzle audiences in the multi-sensory night performance.

HomeTeamNS members can enjoy more bang for their buck on their day out at Sentosa. Mount Faber Leisure group is offering member discounts for popular attractions, including 30 per cent off Cable Car Sky Pass (Round Trip), 20 per cent off Wings of Time (Standard), 15 per cent off SkyHelix Sentosa, and 30 per cent off their Sentosa Island Bus Tour.

FLORA AND FUN

When things start to swelter, it’s time to find shelter. If so, the Gardens by the Bay is your cooling family playground.

The Flower Dome with its climate-controlled environment comes alive this June holidays with fragrant roses, featured within the region of Puglia and its whimsical white, cone-roofed houses. Don’t forget to sign up for their free quick tours to learn more about their succulents, or a workshop where you’ll be taught to make your Forever Rose ring using pipe cleaners. Afterwards, head over to the Cloud Forest to enjoy the immersive walkthrough Avatar Experience before it leaves at the end June.

Other than the domes, the 101 hectares also offers plenty of shade and other activities for a day out. Look out for exhibitions like the Ang Ku Kueh Girl, or planned programmes such as Nature’s Imaginarium for the younger ones, or even a sporting session between parents and their kids with Active Family every Saturday. And bring along a change of clothes – the Far East Organisation Children’s Garden is a water playground that will have the kids squealing in fun.

EXPLORE YOUR CREATIVE SIDE

If your young ones are the creative sort, or you’re trying to inspire them to be so, then how about a dose of art at some of our most beloved institutions?

The Family Art Tours at National Gallery are a great way to start. The free programme happens on the first weekend of June (3-4 June), and facilitators will guide visitors through different artists, their inspirations and the different tools and materials they use, to better appreciate paintings and sculptures. Then, get ready to create some photo prints using cyanotype printing – one of the oldest photographic printing methods – or even make your own paper from scratch. These workshops are designed to stir the joy of crafting and art in children.

Or get a wider perspective with a Civic District Art Tour on a moped. The award-winning motorbike tour is suitable for children because they will be riding in fancy sidecars, and the experienced drivers will share more about how the administrative past of the area has been transformed to today’s vibrant arts and cultural cluster.

Chinese culture, spanning thousands of years, can be bewildering to approach. But visit Cultural Extravaganza 2023 at Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) from 13 May till 18 June to get an exciting showcase of highlights. Working with renowned local art groups to spotlight the cross-generational aspect, the extensive line-up includes performances, talks, an exhibition, TV festival, and even an encounter with Xinyao legend Liang Wenfu. HomeTeamNS members also receive 20 per cent off.

MAKE FEATHERED FRIENDS

When news of the Jurong Bird Park closure was announced, many bemoaned the loss of the iconic attraction. But the new Bird Paradise will change your mind.

The sanctuary houses all of the previous feathered residents in lush settings aligned with their natural habitat. The Hong Leong Foundation Crimson Wetlands is a haven for our crimson friends, featuring the elegant American Flamingoes, cute Scarlet Ibis and vibrant macaws. Over at Kuok Group Wings of Asia, familiar sightings of hornbills and spoonbills are particularly scenic in its tall bamboo groves and rice paddy settings. And of course, the most popular denizens are over at Ocean Network Express Penguin Cove, where they waddle and splash around in their new home. Making your way around is easy with their free in-park shuttle, and even trikes and wagons for rent to jazz things up for the younger ones.

Pro-tip: Complete your day with visits to the other nearby attractions. HomeTeamNS members can enjoy up to 40 per cent off tickets to the Singapore Zoo, River Wonders, and Night Safari.

For more bird-watching fun, families can head to the new Rifle Range Nature Park to try spotting some. The country’s first net positive energy nature park offers extensive trails through the reserve, and visitors can head to Waterhen Hide to see the Quarry Wetland and catch sightings of wetland birds such as the Yellow Bittern and five species of kingfishers.

Brighten up the June holidays for your family and yourself with these exciting happenings at HomeTeamNS and other parts of Singapore.

Five ways to maximise fun at Aqua Adventure

Aqua Adventure offers more ways to make a splash at HomeTeamNS Bedok Reservoir.

TEXT: MORGAN AWYONG
PHOTOS: HOMETEAMNS

Other than the occasional cold spell, Singapore’s sweltering tropical weather usually has us appreciating the fact that we’re surrounded by water. For most of us, pools are the best way to cool off and a new indoor water park is always welcome news, especially for those rainy days.

Aqua Adventure at Bedok Reservoir clubhouse adds another destination in the east, but even those living in the west will find good reasons to visit, for some of the premier features at this water adventure centre.

Here is how you can experience all of the coolest aspects of the facility while having plenty of fun.

FLY DOWN THE BLACKHOLE OR SLIDE DOWN DOUBLE TROUBLE WITH A BUDDY

Water slides are a star attraction at any water park and Aqua Adventure didn’t hold back when they designed their offerings. At 85-metres, the Blackhole Slide will plunge one quickly into its roaring depths, and feel much longer given how thrilling the 12 to 15-second journey will be. As intimidating as it may sound, one ride is all that’s needed to make you come back for another round.

But if good things are meant to be shared, then hook your buddy up with Double Trouble. Hop onto the dual-rider float and have twice the fun as you whirl down the slide. At 114-metres long, it is Singapore’s longest indoor waterslide, so expect a gush of exhilarating adrenaline each time.

FIND YOUR SUPERHERO STRENGTH BY SCURRYING ACROSS THE SCRAMBLE NET

FIND YOUR SUPERHERO STRENGTH BY SCURRYING ACROSS THE SCRAMBLE NET

Aqua Adventure has both wet and dry play zones, and Scramble Net is one of the latter.

Be like Spiderman as you clamber up a tunnel into a giant webbed enclosure, or summon your Black Widow-like stealth skills and tiptoe across a tyre bridge. Complete the round of seven obstacles, navigating past Bosun’s Loops and trusting your balance at Passage of Fear, and you’re assured of a victory your heroes will be proud of. The net obstacle arena is also great with friends as everyone gets to discover their strengths and weaknesses, and helping each other overcome their toughest challenge is frankly what being a superhero team is all about.

CHALLENGE YOURSELF AND HELP YOUR BUDDIES ACROSS THE WET OBSTACLE COURSE

CHALLENGE YOURSELF AND HELP YOUR BUDDIES ACROSS THE WET OBSTACLE COURSE

Located above the laze pool, the Aquatic Challenge Rope Course offers seven engaging play scenarios, and players are encouraged to help each other conquer the obstacles. Whether it’s balancing yourself as you walk across narrow beams or keeping stable as you make your way over hanging steps, having your friends cheer you on is always a memorable experience.

Safety is always a priority so players will be clipped into a full-body harness, and selected elements are cushioned to protect incidental bumps. The only thing you’ll have to worry about is conquering that illusion of height, and the periodic splashes from water buckets that fiendishly tries to throw you off as you make your way through the course. We never said it was easy!

FLOAT AND CHILL AT THE LAZE POOL

FLOAT AND CHILL AT THE LAZE POOL

The Laze Pool offers an escape for anyone who wants to take things down a notch.

Whether you just want to wade in and soak in the cool waters or opt for an idyllic paddle, the large pool has plenty of space to indulge in both. Best of all, it has a perfect vantage of almost all the play stations at Aqua Adventure. Pro tip: You can learn from others as they traverse the obstacle courses above.

Look out for the special programmes arranged by the Aquatic Specialists – there are hourly games on floating pontoons open to everyone. Crank those competitive arms up for some jousting with foam noodles or tug-o-war, or even play a round of Captain’s Ball with a twist on the shifting platform. If you arrange for team-bonding events here, rest assured all will go as planned in Singapore’s first indoor water park venue, come rain or shine.

BEAT YOUR BUDDY AT THE CLOCKWORK TOWERS

BEAT YOUR BUDDY AT THE CLOCKWORK TOWERS

Time for a climb up some quirky walls. It might surprise you but Aqua Adventure’s generous compound includes a five-lane rock climbing wall, but just like everything else at the water park, they come with their own spin.

The auto-belay systems mean you don’t need to take turns clambering up the Clockwork Towers. Groups can have five participants simultaneously make their way to the top via the different routes, as they race against a timer or each other. Give the beginners the runged version on a “crumbling” wall, or attempt the traditional handholds up another two colourful paths.

But to really understand the name, challenge yourself with the two thematic lanes featuring clock faces and clock gears. It’ll give even the most seasoned climbers a thrill with its unconventional grips, and even includes surprise interactive elements that will require smart manoeuvres.

If you work up a sweat, it’s good to know that the pool’s just nearby for a refreshing way to cool off.

Jump right into some splashing fun at Aqua Adventure at HomeTeamNS Bedok Reservoir, open for bookings from 2 June 2023.
